A severed human finger was sent to embattled French President Emmanuel Macron by mail as protests in Paris raged this week — but cops have yet to ID a suspect.
The hacked-off digit arrived in a package at the Elysee Palace, the president’s official residence in the City of Light, on Monday without a note of explanation, the Evening Standard reported.
“The finger was initially put in a fridge where the police put their snacks,” a source from the president’s home told the paper.
“This was to make sure it was preserved and could be analysed as quickly as possible.”
Tests later concluded that the digit belonged to a “living human being” who authorities contacted and was “given full medical support,” the source said.
The threatening delivery baffled law enforcement, who had no clue what had motivated the sender.
“It’s not at all clear why this finger was sent to the president,” said the source, who offered no other details about the bizarre incident.
But the message came as Macron faces criticism and mass rioting over issues ranging from pension reform to the fatal police shooting of 17-year-old French-Algerian delivery driver Nahel M.
Hundreds of protesters defied a ban over the weekend to march against police violence in Paris following at least 150 arrests, some stemming from buildings set ablaze.
More fiery disturbances are expected on Friday, when Macron leads Bastille Day celebrations in Paris.
The person whose finger was severed was not identified due to medical confidentiality, according to the paper.
