The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences (SSES) is seeking to appoint a Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Clinic Supervisor & Tutor. The successful candidate will be required to supervise students in the student-led Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Clinic. The role may also include some teaching/supervision activities including classroom-based settings, group settings, and other clinical practice settings.
The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences is a leading department for the study of sport that is friendly, dynamic and innovative. The School is now on the Canterbury Campus (since September 2021, having been based in Medway before this). The Canterbury Campus is a friendly, well-equipped campus in a desirable location.
The school’s undergraduate programmes consist of three BSc (Hons) programmes: Sport Therapy and Rehabilitation, Sport and Exercise Science, and Sport and Exercise for Health. This post will primarily support students on the Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation programme, but some teaching to students from the other programmes may also be required within some modules.
The School boasts a range of cutting-edge equipment used in research and/or teaching activities, as well as close proximity to the main university sport and recreation facilities.
As a Clinic Supervisor & Tutor, you will:
- Deliver teaching and learning support as part of a team. Teach and supervise in a variety of group settings, including development of teaching materials, methods and approaches with guidance.
- Transfer knowledge in the form of practical skills, methods and techniques, by developing the skills of applying appropriate approaches.
- Supervise the work of students and provide advice on study skills.
- Work closely with colleagues in the teaching team to provide a consistent and coherent experience to students.
- Use teaching resources and facilities, as appropriate.
- Liaise with colleagues and students, building internal networks for the exchange of information.
- Oversee and co-ordinate student Sports Therapy/Rehabilitation placements.
To be successful in this role you will:
- Be a qualified Sports Therapist or Clinician, educated to a minimum of degree level (with an MSc/relevant postgraduate qualification desirable).
- Have Sports Therapy experience in the field or in a clinic setting
- Have an up to date First Aid qualification or the willingness to undertake training
- Possess sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge to teach within the Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation programme.
- Have an ability to assess the work and progress of students using agreed criteria, and provide constructive feedback
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Be registered with a relevant professional body: e.g. Society of Sports Therapists, BASRaT.
- Have experience of working across a number of sports with athletes of different levels, ages and abilities
- Have a willingness to contribute fully as part of the SSES team
- Willingness to engage in continuous professional development
