Salary: Starting salary £45,000. 

Appointments are normally made at the starting salary, however comparable skills and experience will be considered. Future progression is based on annual performance review.

Hours per week: 35 hours per week (Full Time)

Location: Chelsea with some travel to Sutton. This role is eligible for hybrid working.

Job Details

The Translational Research Grants Manager is a new role that has been created to increase the amount of support the ICR provides to those seeking translational grant funding. The postholder will play a pivotal role in delivering our research strategy by providing expert advice support to ICR researchers applying for external translational research funding. 

The post will work closely with relevant research groups to build understanding and knowledge of the ICR’s translational research portfolio to match activity to appropriate funding opportunities. The postholder will utilise external networks to horizon scan for external funding opportunities. In addition, the post will lead the implementation of the ICR’s MRC Impact Acceleration Account and provide proactive support to applicants and awardees. 

The role will be based in Chelsea with the opportunity to work flexibly from home for three days per week.

Key Requirements

With a PhD in medical or biological sciences, you will have experience in supporting grant applications to translational research funding schemes in particular the MRC Development Pathway Funding Scheme and Innovate UK.
Experience in a research support role including experience of developing successful bids and funding applications and horizon scanning to identify new funding opportunities is essential. You will have an advanced understanding of the UK peer review funding environment and translational research funding schemes. Experience of working at the interface between academia and industry is desirable. 

Excellent writing, analytical and IT skills are essential as is being able to build effective relationships with academic and professional services colleagues. You will need the ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload and demonstrate initiative and problem solving. 

The post is full-time and the starting salary will be circa £45,000 p.a. The post also benefits from a generous annual leave entitlement and a contributory career evaluated benefits pension scheme.

The role of the Academic Services directorate is to create an efficient and effective academic environment for the scientific community to flourish. The work of the Directorate underpins both research and education supporting the whole research lifecycle, providing education resources, administering all aspects of postgraduate study as well managing ICR information and personal data safely, fairly, and legally.

This post is part of Academic Services: Research Services.

The Research Services function of Academic Services includes the Research Services Unit, Strategic Grants, Research Policy and Partnerships and Core Research Facilities. The teams provide proactive research support to the research community including support for Faculty recruitment, research committees, research systems and information and grant coordination along with monitoring the UK research funding and policy landscape to ensure the ICR can respond to changes and opportunities. In addition, the team is responsible for running key core research facilities.
