Summary:

We are looking to appoint a University Teacher who will contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching of theory and practice to professional and non-professional programmes within the Health Sciences School. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of only four centres in the UK providing pre-registration education for Orthoptists. Our teaching consistently achieves high scores in the NSS.

Our undergraduate programme is a pre-registration BMedSci (Hons)Orthoptics and as such requires us to educate students fit for purpose and practice on graduation. We receive excellent student feedback and National Student Survey (NSS) scores. We also deliver two MMedSci programmes, by distance and online learning. These are the MMedSci Vision &; Strabismus programme and an MMedSci Advanced Clinical Practice in Ophthalmology (Paediatrics), both of which attract practising Orthoptists and other eye care professionals. Individual modules may be taken as standalone CPD study. We maintain an active research profile, with staff publishing and presenting at many national and international meetings. Applicants should be attracted to the variety of opportunities to teach both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our postgraduate programmes, Low vision and Stroke modules have British & Irish Orthoptic Society level II accreditation and the exemptions module regarding supply of medicines, is approved by the HCPC. Our UG and PG prorgammes attract both home and overseas students and we also have a small number of postgraduate research students from the UK and overseas.

Research is an area we are developing and enhancing as part of the overall strategy of the Health Sciences School.

We seek candidates with teaching experience in Orthoptics and who have the capacity to develop research-led education. The successful applicant will contribute to further development of our undergraduate and postgraduate provision. You will be encouraged to collaborate with existing research projects and bring expertise to collaborations within the Health Sciences School.

There are excellent clinical teaching facilities including equipment for eye movement and accommodation measures.

You will have an honours degree and proven teaching experience in a relevant field. The ability to work in partnership with a range of professionals and collaboratively across disciplines is also essential.
