Schoolies’ end of year celebrations in Bali have been marred by a number of violent brawls erupting on the streets during a raucous night out.
Footage of two savage incidents have emerged on social media, showing men punching, kicking and wrestling with one another seemingly in front of a nightclub.
The incidents were initially alleged to be Schoolies, but one of the victims has since been identified as Perth tradie Matthew Stevenson.
The 27-year-old told 7News Perth he was attacked and robbed by a group of men on November 24 at the Engine Room nightclub in Kuta, after dancing with one of the group’s sisters.
He said the assault left him with a broken cheek and split scalp, which required 10 stitches.
But Mr Stevenson said it could have ended but being much worse.
“There’s always cases of that happening, people getting hit in the head and dying or incurring brain damage or you know it could’ve been much more severe,” he said.
“I was just trying to defend myself, even in the video you can see I look kind of lifeless.”
Mr Stevenson told 9News he was dancing with a woman in the club when one man came up to him and allegedly pushed him.
He said he and his friends decided to leave the club 30 minutes later, which is when he was brutally assaulted.
One attacker from the group is reportedly in jail, the others, understood to be from New Zealand remain on the run.
Security from the Sky Garden Bali across the street are believed to have come to Mr Stevenson’s aid and helped stop the attack.
CCTV from that club reportedly captures the same group causing chaos for partygoers in the Kuta strip.
And another video has emerged on the Instagram account ‘@idiots—inbali’, that seems to show the group attacking another person in Kuta.
The same women – one wearing a pink tube dress and a green and blue tube dress – can be seen in the video trying to pull the men apart.
Men wearing the same security uniforms can also be seen trying to intervene in that video.
Mr Stevenson told 7News Perth that he could not understand the group’s behaviour.
“I don’t understand why they have this attitude and think they can come to a foreign country and be disrespectful to a the law and other people,” he said.
