On a recent visit to Washington DC, the Chancellor of Germany came face-to-face with his self-described doppelganger.
US Senator Chris Coons and German Chancellor Olaf Sholz share more than just a career path, the two look strikingly similar.
In a selfie post to X, Chancellor Scholz captioned it “great to see my Doppleganger again”.
Senator Coons replied with another selfie and the caption “Wer ist wer?” — German for “who is who”.
The comments on X reflected the uncanny resemblance between the two.
“Hope the right Olaf will return to Deutschland though,” wrote one concerned commenter.
Mr Scholz is the leader of Germany’s three party coalition, and was in Washington to meet with US President Joe Biden to encourage additional support for Ukraine.
According to Reuters Chancellor Scholz told reporters he had been encouraged by the US Senate’s advancement of a US$95 billion ($146 billion) bill that included aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
At the Oval Office, Mr Biden said if Congress did not support Ukraine it would be “outrageous”.
“The failure of the United States Congress, if it occurs, not to support Ukraine is close to criminal neglect,” Mr Biden said according to Reuters.
Chancellor Scholz said Germany had made decisive contributions in support of Ukraine lately.
“Now, the same must happen in the rest of Europe and also the United States,” he said.
